![]() I noticed this issue has been mentioned before on this forum somewhere, but I don't recall a definite conclusion on it. I imagine there's a difference between the quality of the audio files I recorded on the LaCie (less) and those to the MacBook drive (better/normal). I will surely try to defragment my MacBbook hard drive - though recording to that drive went fine. I haven't recorded anything since I posted my question, so I don't know what the above will result in. I checked the Console today: a lot of information but I'm not experienced enough to make something out of that but I will check it more regularly in future. But the time delay caused by journalling thus remains unsolved. After formatting with journalling turned on this problem was solved. I formatted the LaCie not journaled (which I find is recommended all over the internet): PT subsequently couldn't open the files. In the meanwhile I reformatted the LaCie harddrive and also did a check on the writing permissions on the MacBook drive: over 170 errors were reported which I restored. Indeed it's very embarrassing to tell clients that the effort they made wasn't recorded due to Pro Tools or other technical errors. Thanks for your replies even though they didn't give a distinct answer to my questions. Because I don't understand the technical aspects to what I am suggesting, I just know its what's worked for me. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge than me will chime in here. and for whatever reason maybe it was easier for your computer to read off its internal drive rather than pull audio through the firewire architecture. the last part of the error message refers to "extra CPU load". something else that is bogging down your system and making it difficult for the system to read the drive. What I mean is: even though the 9073 says it can't get audio fast enough from the drive, the problem isn't necessarily the drive itself, and may be elsewhere. I took the plugin out of the folder and things are back to normal. I checked console and found that my system was getting hung up trying to repeatedly load a plugin for Final Cut Pro that was out of date - even when I wasn't running FCP. I don't know if its related at all, but recently, I was getting 9073 errors, buffer errors, and CPU errors among others. But I do know that I haven't had a problem since doing these two things. I don't know the programming language to describe the why's and wherefore's. While it's true that MOST people don't need to Defrag a Mac, I read a few articles that suggested it was a good idea for music or video editors because they deal with such large file sizes that are always getting over-written. So I took the plunge and bought iDefrag (about $30. I've done a lot of recording on this hard drive, and deleted many sessions from it. However, that shouldn't be a problem, right? I agree, but a workaround is better than an interrupted session.Īlso, and I know this is a term we don't often use in Mac world, I defragmented my hard drive. Subsequent remote sessions, I have sub-mixed those 12 or so tracks to a stereo playback. Not only was I recording 6 tracks at once, but I was also reading about 12 tracks. Extremely embarrassing!! I had to finish the session with the client's USB portable drive! (And that shouldn't work at all)Īnalyzing the situation afterward, I realized that I had made one error. I had a similar problem on a remote recording session. Does anybody know if PT can behave like this? Next, I discovered PT had written audio files (WAV) from one session into the audio file of another session! Maybe I was so panicked that I opened the wrong session for the right song, which is a logical explanation, or PT really messed up the file placement. To finish the recording, I copied the sessions to my local disc and removed the LaCie: although this is advised against it worked fine and I could finish the recordings for my clients. Does anyone know wether it has to do with the firewire bandwidth or the LaCie? I don't understand why exactly I got this message but it makes me quiet uncertain about future sessions. The LaCie contained 123,05 GB of PT session files and a number of MP3 albums of which I don't recall the exact size but all together the LaCie wasn't occupied for more than 25%. I was recording with Digirack Factory 003+ & Focusrite Octopre, through a LaCie 2d Quadra V2 (1TB) Firewire 800 into PT on a MacBook Pro 13" (2.4 GHz/4GB). Your drive may be too slow or fragmented, or a firewire drive could be having trouble due to the extra firewire bandwidth or CPU load." While recording 10 tracks simultaneously (drums, bass & guitar) for a client lately, Pro Tools stopped recording with the notorious -9073 error message: "DAE can't get audio from the drive(s) fast enough. I would like some help / answers to the following.

I was actually referring to the included piano with Sonar. If I go there again I feel more confident but still have that taste in my mouth, know what I mean? Ivory might be the thing to push me back that way again. No doubt things have gotten much better since I last went there. I have less than fond memories of trying to make a large sample player work with a glitchy engine. I think my Q8300 with 8gb of ram could probably swing Ivory. Do any of you use pianoteq and what has been your experience with using it? Any other suggestions for a program that won't hog my cpu and HDD?Īlgeria- Thanks for your take on this. I was immediately impressed with the better sound compared to my sampled synths. I really like the concept of the Pianoteq piano and downloaded the demo last night for the basic player edition. I'm not extremely impressed with True pianos and I don't want to to load my secondary HDD up with 100 gigs if there is no need. I mostly use a Motif rack for recording piano and it sounds passable with some material but playing that 88 key piano has me wanting more. I am thinking that I would like that kind of quality with my recordings. ![]() I recently started to play an 88 key grand piano at my church every week and the difference is like night and day when compared to a sampled keyboard. I still believe I was correct in that assumption. After playing my keyboards for years over PA systems,I had gotten to the point that I said to myself, Why get a better piano sound? it will never be noticed anyhow. I think I am slowly starting to become a piano snob. ![]() ![]() The fast hitch as is has a limit of about 100 hp pull.
